19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a challenging year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term coach his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

Success also means he has won 21 titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on court had caused some to question if his capacity to compete at the elite level was concluded.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

Moutet rescued four initial opportunities in a tight final set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
